Production Supervisor candidate (extrusion/conversion experience) in Montgomery, Alabama.
Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Production Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day manufacturing operations in assigned department and supports the unassigned departments during off-shifts. Responsibilities include productivity, efficiency, scrap reduction, quality, safety, continuous improvement initiatives, and talent selection. Provides direction, leadership, development, and support to direct and indirect reports. The Production Supervisor fully supports and clarifies policies, procedures, and company initiatives in order to meet or exceed established standards.
- Ensure that all employees in the assigned area work safely, housekeeping rules are enforced, and unsafe conditions are corrected.
- Train employees on standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
- Coordinate with the Plant Manager and Department Managers to ensure the highest levels of productivity, quality, and maintenance.
- Ensure that management is knowledgeable of scrap, production, and quality standards; ensure that these standards are met or exceeded.
- Review approved headcount levels and takes appropriate action to maintain.
- Make decisions, in coordination with Department Managers, concerning unnecessary labor, reassignments, downtime, and lack of business conditions.
- Coordinate the scheduling and efficient changeover of production lines to meet customer needs; ensure that necessary production supplies are available for production and accurate work orders/travelers are submitted to Quality Department.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Manager and Supervisor for necessary preventive and breakdown maintenance; assist in setting priorities for maintenance of equipment and machinery.
- Partner with Human Resources to effectively mitigate employee relations issues (i.e., disciplines, terminations, promotions, demotions, attendance, union); counsel employees when need arises.
- Support and promote a "team” environment across all departments and levels of the organization.
- Prepare and conduct frequent meetings with key shift personnel to analyze monthly performance; develop and implement action plans to improve performance.
- Conduct meetings in subjects pertaining to all facets of shift operations.
- Report status of equipment that cannot achieve product outputs to the appropriate individual; determine best alternative in order to proceed and make recommendations.
- Responsible for effective and efficient usage of raw materials for the shift as measured in pounds.
- Determine which materials are used for production to meet established goals.
- Directly supervise 30 – 40 hourly employees.
- Perform other related functions and duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Above average to expert level extrusion and conversion skills with a minimum of 5 years experience.
- Ability to influence people effectively and efficiently in order to meet production and organization goals.
- Ability to effectively manage complex, difficult, and emotional situations involving employees.
- Self-starter that uses initiative within established policies and procedural guidelines.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively manage rapidly changing priorities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adhere to Berry’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Vision, Policy, and Standards.
- Work a day or night shift of 12 or more hours with a flexible work schedule including holidays and weekends.
- Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety goggles, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, face shield, and gloves.
- Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack; maintain a forklift operator license.
