Overview
The Mold Technician works with the Shift Supervisor and maintenance personnel to operate, troubleshoot, document, and communicate on all equipment that is/is not performing within specifications.
Responsibilities
- Exemplifies the Berry Behaviors and Values at all times. Leads by example and exhibits professionalism in all areas when representing Berry inside and outside of the plant.
- Work in a professional manner with other mold technicians and maintenance personnel as needed to keep all equipment in top working order resulting in only quality product being released to the customer.
- Set up machines for operation, change material and color to meet production schedules.
- Must have a technical understanding of process and raw materials used.
- Keep supervisor/management informed of all problems.
- Will at times directly supervise / manages others.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints by taking to Supervisor to resolve problems.
- Cover for the supervisor in his/her absence.
- Startup machines and monitor quality at start up.
- Make appropriate adjustments to machines to maintain efficient production levels and document appropriately.
- Respond to Quality Assurance Techs by adjusting machines to maintain appropriate sizes and standards.
- Oversee proper packaging procedures.
- Review production schedules and ensure machines are running production to meet customer demands.
- Respond to alarms and/or requests for assistance to correct machine malfunctions and/or Packer/Handler problems.
- Use proper Lockout/tagout procedures.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance and Maintenance Departments concerning machine operations and malfunctions.
- Inspect scrap to prevent any usable product from being ground and record scrap numbers.
- Ability to effectively perform the Packer/Handler job to assist with relief breaks.
- Assist with Material Handling as needed.
- Keep the floor stocked with materials required for production (fitments/handles/labels/tape, etc.).
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Responsible for ensuring quality and housekeeping standards are maintained.
- Ensure a smooth transition between shifts.
- Various other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior plastic injection molding experience is highly preferred.
- Possess or obtain a technical understanding of injection-molding processes and procedures.
- Regularly required to stand for long periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Good hand-eye coordination is required.
- Frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequent exposure to production floor; required use of PPE including but not limited to: Bump Cap, Safety Eyewear or Prescription Safety Eyewear, Safety Shoes, Hair/beard nets, Hearing Protection and Disposable Mask.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
- Frequently exposed to fumes, or airborne particles.
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- Good communication skills--verbal and written; must effectively communicate with employees, vendors, and customers.
- Independent in working effectively with little supervision; self-starter, displaying ability to work and deliver results in a fast-paced, performance driven environment.
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work as a cross-functional team member.
