Description of Role
In this role, you will be responsible for the success of a small Mechanical Team. This team is composed of mechanical design engineers who work across a range of prototyping and product development projects for multiple target market applications. There will be multiple project workflows happening simultaneously on the team and you will be responsible for the technical content as well as organizing and prioritizing the workflows. You will work closely with other functional managers, project leaders, and external partners to deliver results as a high-energy, cross-functional organization.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides technical leadership and strategic direction for wearable robotics products.
- Leads the mechanical design process, from technical content and insight to documented designs
- Determines requirements for the mechanical engineering function, including research and development, production, testing, and quality assurance of new and existing product lines.
- Comfortable with prototyping using tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and hand tools to fabricate parts and build assemblies to test new ideas, as well as lead the team through this process.
- Works closely with technical experts, using a broad technical understanding of electromechanical systems and prototyping.
- Creating project and program plans for the mechanical team and schedules to meet business commitments
- Reviews work and projects for technical accuracy.
- Maintains knowledge of new trends, developments, technologies, materials, and best practices; applies this knowledge to continually improve product lines and production efficiency.
- Works collaboratively with project managers and other team leaders, adhering to timelines and cost projections, organizing collaborative meetings, and ensuring projects comply with specifications, timelines, and budgets.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department, daily meetings and regular check-ins with the team.
- Provides constructive and timely performance feedback, evaluations, and career development.
- As part of the leadership team, works with other managers and Dephy HR to create and maintain an effective work culture.
- Work with the hiring team to interview, hire, and train engineering staff as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Be a good human - get along with the team, build strong working relationships, and execute on Dephy’s Values.
- 8-15 years of Mechanical Engineering experience with a proven track record of success, preferably in product development
- Proficient with Solidworks and comfortable using it to design mechanisms in 3D
- Excellent teamwork with other project and engineering leaders to deliver complex products.
- Experience with leading technical teams through wearable devices, robotics or other motion control product development projects
- Capable of leading rapid electromechanical development efforts through appropriate prototyping efforts
- Solid understanding of the creative design process and experience working with designers to create bold new concepts.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines through a team. Ability to delegate and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required
Desired Qualifications
- At least 2 years of people management experience
- Masters degree
- Knowledge of Biomechanics and human locomotion
- Experience designing consumer devices
