Responsibilities
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Exemplifies the Berry Behaviors and Values at all times. Leads by example and exhibits professionalism in all areas when representing Berry inside and outside of the plant.
- Work in a professional manner with other maintenance personnel and mold technicians as needed to keep all equipment in top working order resulting in only quality product being released to the customer.
- Troubleshoot, remove and replace different types of electronic, electromechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and optic systems.
- Pre-inspect parts or equipment to be repaired to determine what parts, supplies, forms, tools, tool repair and shop equipment are required; and communicate with Maintenance Manager.
- Read programmable controller information to diagnose complex problems.
- Diagnose and repair AC and DC motor controls.
- Replace belts, pulleys, cables, chains, bearings, gears and related equipment.
- Communicate with other plant personnel when requested to, to review deficiencies.
- Accurately log all work performed.
- Maintain work areas in a clean orderly manner.
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently.
- Perform PM’s, cleans and lubricates molding machines and equipment
- Modifies, repairs, and rebuilds plant machinery and equipment
- Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair
- Visually inspects and solves problem machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions
- Measures parts to detect wear, misalignment or improper operation
- Documents repairs and maintenance of manufacturing equipment
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
- Potential duties may also include: Fabrication and installation of related trades; performing building maintenance; and general facility repairs
- Performs installation of new equipment and or relocation of equipment
- Understanding of the functionality of relays, motor contactors, motor starters, solid state relays, soft starts and variable frequency drives.
- Familiarity with operation and troubleshooting of PLC programming
- Ability to read, interpret, and trouble shoot using schematic diagrams
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
- Experience in electrical distribution and machine controls ranging from 24 to 480 volts AC/DC
- Safely perform plant lockout/tagout procedures, electrical safety, hazard communication program, personal protective equipment and other safety programs and apply these procedures when working on equipment.
- Other duties and/or jobs as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years industrial maintenance, manufacturing, technical school &/or Associates degree from an accredited technical institute or combination education and experience.
- Regularly required to stand for long periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Good hand-eye coordination is required.
- Frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
- Frequently exposed to fumes, or airborne particles.
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- Good communication skills--verbal and written; must effectively communicate with employees, vendors, and customers.
- Independent in working effectively with little supervision; self-starter, displaying ability to work and deliver results in a fast-paced, performance driven environment.
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work as a cross-functional team member.

- Extensive knowledge with electrical, hydraulic and injection molding machines.
- Strong PLC programming skills.
