About the Role
Eriez is seeking an R&D Manager to lead our Mechanical Engineering Group.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will undertake the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Work with Director to maintain facility, budget, and staffing at levels required to achieve corporate strategic goals.
- Assist Director with strategic planning for facility and personnel qualifications to achieve goals.
- Manage Stage Gate Projects and provide Gantt charts, conduct technical reviews, and provide periodic status reports.
- Assist in setting department goals, evaluating employee performance, and training new employees.
- Responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing operations of the department or business unit.
- Propose new opportunities for workplace improvement and departmental growth.
- Ensure company policies are followed
- Lead a team of engineers and designers on stage-gate projects and ensure that new products fulfill goals and expectations
- Conduct stage-gate project team meetings to review calculations, tests, technical issues, and project timelines (Gantt charts)
- Provide stage-gate progress updates to immediate supervisor and identify any technical or manpower issues
- Properly document all engineering calculations
- Provide necessary documentation to ensure reliable operation in the field (IOMs)
- Identify, conduct, and report all necessary tests on prototype equipment to ensure reliable operation
- Assist immediate supervisor in reviewing new stage-gate projects to define manpower requirements and project timelines
- Evaluate, troubleshoot, and provide solutions for prototype equipment development
- Review designs with respect to ANSI/AWS documentation practices for critical drawing dimensions, tolerances, and symbols.
- Produce Installation, Operation, and Maintenance (IOM) documents for new equipment.
- Assist immediate supervisor with employee performance reviews.
- Perform tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Travel as required.
Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Master of Science degree in a technical field or project management or PE license desired.
Experience:
- A minimum of ten years of experience in machine design in an R&D and/or Engineering Group.
- A minimum of five years in leading development and testing of new products from concept to final production.
- A minimum of five years of demonstrated strong leadership, personnel supervision, organizational, and communication skills to achieve company goals.
- A minimum of two years of demonstrated success managing stage-gate and research projects to achieve company goals and expectations.
Qualifications Required:
- Possess strong project management skills with proven record of delivering projects in-line with company goals and expectations.
- Possess strong leadership, supervisory, and communication skills to relay clear and concise information to direct reports, co-workers, and management.
- Possess the communication skills necessary to conduct presentations to global audiences including corporate management, subsidiary managing directors, and product managers.
- Possess the ability to evaluate new product ideas and define the necessary steps to take an idea from concept to production.
- Possess the ability to determine the critical components or design features that require engineering calculations and lab tests.
- Possess the ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, and provide solutions for prototype equipment development issues.
