Introduction
Slip Robotics, a rapidly growing robotics company specializing in industrial-size robots for truck loading and unloading, is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team. We are looking for a highly skilled individual with 8+ years of mechanical design experience.
Job Description
The special projects team tackles unique and high-impact initiatives, often operating with a high degree of autonomy to solve complex engineering challenges. In this role, you will drive the development of pre-prototype products, address urgent project needs, and take on cross-disciplinary tasks that don’t strictly fit within traditional engineering structures.
Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Lead the design, prototyping, and validation of mechanical systems for special projects. Apply sound engineering principles to create innovative solutions while meeting time-sensitive demands.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, software, and systems engineers, as well as product managers and other stakeholders, to integrate mechanical components into cohesive product solutions.
- Prototyping and Testing: Rapidly develop prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to validate mechanical designs, refine functionality, and improve overall system reliability.
- Requirements Development: Develop and document mechanical requirements based on minimal or evolving product definitions. Work closely with product and technical teams to clarify and iterate on project goals and design criteria.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on product design, rapid prototyping, and system integration. Experience in a fast-paced or startup environment is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo), PDM, component sizing, hand-calc analysis, rapid prototyping techniques, familiarity with electrical engineering fundamentals and wiring basics
- Change Management: Familiarity with an enterprise PLM system (Windchill, Teamcenter, etc), demonstrated ability following structured design review process
- Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to work on projects that may not have clear initial requirements and to navigate cross-functional needs that don’t fit neatly within a single engineering discipline.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Maintain a collaborative mindset while working in multidisciplinary teams and leading efforts that require alignment across engineering, product, and operations teams.
