About the Role
As an intern at Berry Global, you'll meet and learn from business leaders across the plant, work on meaningful projects, and develop skills, knowledge and connections that will propel you forward in your career. Berry's internship program is designed to bridge the gap between classroom concepts and practical application in a real-world industrial manufacturing environment.
Berry's Engineering Interns are proactive, curious, and dependable team members. You'll take the lead on an assigned "capstone" project aimed at improving plant efficiency and shaped by your unique perspective. Daily workload will vary based on department needs and your interests, focusing on safety and quality. This position will comprise of approximately 60% desk/computer work and 40% hands-on work in the production area. Personal accountability is expected, questions are encouraged, and constructive feedback is welcome as we pursue our mission of always advancing to protect what's important.
**The Engineering Intern will work onsite at the Lawrence, KS facility and is intended to be temporary for the summer of 2025. This position is expected to work a full-time (40 hours/week) schedule as determined by the Hiring Manager. Relocation is available for this position.**
Responsibilities
- Apply general engineering principles to capital projects aimed at reducing costs and improving safety.
- Engage with team members at all levels to inform new projects, prioritizing end-user functionality and feasibility of maintenance activities.
- Assist with prototyping, 3D printing, machine modification, and rebuild projects.
- Develop project plans and schedules; assist in estimating timing and costs, determining resource constraints, running feasibility studies, and identifying success metrics.
- Regularly report on project progress and challenges, collaborating with team members to create contingency plans and resolve issues.
- Embrace a team player mentality by approaching all assigned tasks with consideration and positive intent, regardless of scope.
- Provide general support to the Engineering department.
- Contribute to Company-wide Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals.
- Represent Berry Global in a positive and professional manner when interacting with vendors, customers, or other stakeholders.
- Comply with all Company Environmental Health and Safety standards and Department of Health requirements.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled college student with relevant coursework in Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, or related field
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Aptitude for and interest in mechanics, machinery, automation, and technically challenging work
- Familiarity with and confidence in using basic hand tools and measurement instruments
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
- Previous experience with 3D printing preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
- Exposure to and experience with CAD (SolidWorks) preferred
