The Industrial Manufacturing Engineer is customer driven and aligned with the Design, Quality and Operations teams of the facility to deliver above expectations. They are fully engaged in the continuous improvement of the detector manufacturing processes, acting as the process and problem-solving leader while driving innovation within the team through lean methodology, and capital expenditure projects. The Industrial Engineer is responsible for identifying process improvement opportunities in conjunction with the manufacturing team, conducting Process FMEA’s, solving any problems that arise and sustaining the gains. The Industrial Engineer partners with other members of the manufacturing engineering team, production operators and supervisors to develop teams, lead manufacturing improvement projects, monitor processes, and implement new processes and process improvements.
This role is highly technical in nature. It requires an aptitude to foresee material interactions over a vast array of processing conditions. Solutions to material and process problems are not obtainable through literature or the internet, so the ability to think creatively and apply solutions that are like in nature to resolve problems is critical to the success of this role. Being a highly hands on labor intense operation, automation of repetitive tasks is an objective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze existing manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to enhance productivity.
- Manage complex projects both as the leader and as a contributing team member of other team members’ projects.
- Communicate with suppliers, customers, and members of supervision/management.
- Collaborate with product development teams to ensure manufacturability and scalability.
- Design, test, and improve manufacturing equipment and tooling.
- Develop a strong understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes, identify opportunities to improve the control of production processes, efficiency, and productivity gains.
- Conduct time studies and establish standards for efficiency and quality.
- Provide technical support and training to manufacturing staff.
- Maintain documentation of process changes and improvements.
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineer
- 1-3 years of experience in a design for manufacturing labor intense environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- 1-3 years of experience with Minitab, CAD, CREO, AutoCAD
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies Preferred.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
