Responsibilities
PURPOSE
The human resource generalist will work to foster an environment of learning and positive employee relations with strong commitment to safety, accountability, and recognition.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer various human resources plans and procedures for all company personnel; assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; administers and maintains employee handbook and policies and procedures manuals.
- Perform benefits administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, conduct enrollment meetings and communicating benefit information to employees.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment. Assist with payroll and HR automated systems. In this position, the employee is responsible for prescreening applicants for production positions, conducts preliminary interviews of such applicants and makes recommendations to Production Managers and Supervisors.
- Maintains staffing list and determines actual needs for final openings that would require interviews.
- Apprises Human Resources Manager as to status of openings, vacancy filling and staffing requirements.
- Assures that all necessary pre-employment tests have been completed prior to actual hire.
- Performs orientations on all new hires.
- Administers the medical, dental and life insurances including employee sign-up, preparation of forms and employee assistance in resolution of problems. Oversees the operation of the H.R. Office in the absence of the H. R. Manager. Maintains all employee personnel files.
- Promptly processes weekly and bi-weekly payroll checks (verification of time entries, check printing, verification and distribution). Does follow-up of check discrepancies and takes corrective action.
- Processes receipt vouchers for invoices required for maintaining the department’s hiring activities; follows up on discrepancies. Prepares a monthly report on hires/terminations for the facility.
- Processes, checks and makes computer entries for paperwork pertaining to employee transfers and other personnel actions.
- Performs clerical functions, type letters and memos, posts and distributes. Exercises independent judgment in the performance of duties as well as performing other general office duties not consistent with the personnel function.
- Responsible for adhering to and executing the applicable Environmental Health & Safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for all employees according to Berry, local, state, and federal requirement-regulations.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have good speaking and telephone skills.
- Must be able to read, write and understand English
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in Spanish
- Must be proficient in Excel and Word programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, general public and outside vendors by telephone, in person and through written and verbal correspondence.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal direction and self motivated. Individual should be able to exercise sound judgment, be able to plan, be well organized, work well under pressure, take the initiative and be flexible and cooperative. The individual should also be accurate, timely and discrete.
SAFETY
Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Berry’s guidelines. Visually inspects the facility for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards and helps to maintain a clean work environment.
EXPERIENCE
- A four-year degree is preferred, or equivalent and applicable work-related experience
- A minimum of 1-3 years of Human Resource experience in a manufacturing environment
- Must be able to adjust schedule
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English; bi-lingual skills a plus. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed. Working knowledge of business English, spelling, office practices and procedures; departmental rules and regulations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to do functional math; i.e. adding, subtracting, multiplying and division. Has ability to operate a calculator by touch.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Manual dexterity required with exposure to back fatigue. The employee stands approximately 2 hours and frequently walks throughout the facility contacting co-workers and handling office errands. Prolonged sitting is required for entering computer information reviewing paperwork. Climbing/descending stairs is required to go to the upper office space for meetings and other general office duties. Sitting, standing in one place, reaching, pushing and pulling for general office duties. A minimum lifting requirement of 50 pounds is required.
