The Parts Cleaner is responsible for safely and efficiently performing a variety of duties in order to support the production operation. This position is responsible for visually inspecting tools at the beginning of each shift to ensure ability to safely operate, as well as have the ability to properly use tools and equipment including grinders, saws, forklifts, and overhead cranes. The Parts Cleaner position is also expected to participate in clean up duties to ensure work can be completed in a safe manner.
Essential Responsibilities
- Visually inspects tools and equipment for safety and proper operation at the beginning of each shift. Notifies supervisor or maintenance of needed repairs or replacements
- Ability to accurately read instructions or plans, measures, holds, and positions materials
- Ability to read and understand cut list to cut correct number of parts to the required specifications
- Ability to safely operate different saws to cut steel parts for the production process.
- Ability to safely operate grinders or other proper tools to remove rough edges, surplus metals, surplus weld, or scale
- Ability to safely move materials either manually, with a forklift, or by using an overhead crane to position heavy materials
- Maintain and use all required personal protective equipment as outlined in the Diamond Z Safety Manual
- Understands and follows all Diamond Z safety policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks as assigned or needed
Additional Responsibilities
- Cleans and organizes work area
- Appropriately disposes of scrap material and waste
- Assists with special projects as assigned by supervisor
- Ability to reach over and around objects to lift, move, or place objects or materials in designated locations
- Ability to understand written or verbal instructions, operate a tape measure, and understand the difference between various types of steel
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 50 pounds with assistance
- Ability to see to read drawings and instructions, and place materials where needed
- Ability to safely work on raised platforms, climb stairs or ladders, and climb off equipment or ladders
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, and reach both above and below shoulder height
- Ability to handle, place, manipulate, operate, stack, and connect equipment and materials through fine and basic hand skills
- Ability to verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors in a safe and productive manner
- Ability to work extended shifts to meet business demands as needed
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
