India Lab Facilities Engineer (Chemical & Gas)

Applied Materials is growing at a pace that is driving significant increases in headcount and facilities. As a result, we expect over the next five years to have the most exciting and active project pipeline in our history. In addition to enabling this growth, Applied Materials is investing significantly in labs to augment the R&D capability in India, the current lab and cleanroom footprint of 100k sft is expected to more than double in the next 3~5 yrs. The Global Workplace and Infrastructure (GWI) team is responsible for all facilities, from acquisition through operation to disposition. The Labs are mission critical to our success and they operate 24x7 365 days a year. As a member of the GWI team, this position will play an exciting and important role in our success.
The India Lab Facilities Engineer will be an SME in one or more of - Gas & Chemical Engineering with hands-on experience in Semiconductor manufacturing either a Fab or AT site. The candidate will drive the facility operations for all Labs within the India portfolio. The position is based in Bengaluru and will report to the India Lab Facilities Engineering Lead, Global Workplace & Infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Overall Infrastructure Management: Be part of the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of Gas & Chemical infrastructure to support semiconductor processing in the Lab.
Plan: Support the Lab Facilities Engineering Lead in Planning the Roadmap for the lab – this includes,
Understanding internal customer tooling requirements, validating these requirements and schedules, studying feasibility, planning facility needs and capacity needs and planning for them in both budget and execution. Provides design engineering support for base build projects, system expansion, modifications, and new equipment installations by developing the statement of work, sequence of operations and basis of design. This includes providing design input and submittal review. Responsible for driving global alignment, reliability and efficiency improvements, cost reductions, capacity planning, improved automation and monitoring, regulatory compliance, cost reductions and alignment to sustainability goals. Prioritization - execute short- and long-range planning efforts to maintain modern and efficient buildings through a proactive Capital plan.
Build: Assist the Lab Facilities Engineering Lead in Building to the Plan, this includes:
All Retrofit, EOL and Engg. projects within the lab, this would also include tool hook-ups to facilities utility infrastructure (Gases, Chemicals, Storage & Delivery systems, Scrubbers, Abatements, Gas Life safety systems, water treatment, ETP etc.,), this would involve working closely with the business tool owner to understand the tools, its utility requirements and the process they intend to perform, plan for those tool hook-ups, agree on SLA’s upfront. Identify business requirements and feedback by effective engagement, meet business needs through effective cross functional collaboration with GIS / IT, Security, Procurement, HR, EHS, Legal and vendors leadership and teams. Develop Program and manage life cycle refresh, renovation, maintenance and repairs, energy, and utility management to contribute to Company’s carbon footprint goals.
Run: Support the Lab Facilities Engineering Lead to run the lab 24x7 365 days a year with 100% uptime, high availability, reliability, zero down time and interrupts. Implement a Chemical & Gas management system to support business operations that meets tool uptime & complies to storage & safety requirements, applicable codes, and regulations.
Ensure the systems are operating as designed and within specification limits, assists in trouble shooting, drives reliability and efficiency improvements and monitors system parameters. Plan well in advance for consumables, spares, inventory, and replenishments. Develop, review, and maintain Applied Global Best-Known Methods (BKM) documents with focus and emphasis on Operations and Maintenance Reliability and/or Performance. Compliance and Safety: Ensure Gas and Chemical systems comply with industry standards, safety regulations, local state and central Government stipulations and company policies. Responsible for annual planning, forecasting, preparing accruals and budgeting. Review and monitor through the year through monthly and quarterly reporting.
The role requires partnering with cross-functional teams and Senior business leaders to solve business situations through creative, right solutions, at the right cost. This will range from business (GWI) process re-engineering, building team skills and mature supply chain and vendor programs. The Lab Facilities Engg. Lead is expected to be willing to travel up to 10% and virtually participate in meetings spread across all global time zones.

- Establish and manage performance through identified quantitative, qualitative metrics (KPI/CSI) and SLAs.

The Candidate will have the Following:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering Gas & Chemical Engineering
10+ years of experience within a large corporation, preferably managing facilities operations for semiconductor Fab or AT site, Industrial Bulk & specialty gas plants, Chemical or pharmaceutical industries.
Certifications: CFM, IFMA, PE, CE, etc.,
Understanding of OSHA, NIOSH, NBC, Fire codes, MSDS, MOC, etc.,
Troubleshooting know-how of GLSS, sensors/ detectors, control systems / valves, RO/ ETP/ water treatment
Languages: English, Hindi, Kannada
Ability to communicate with and effectively influence senior leaders and cross functional teams.
Passion to challenge the status quo in pursuit of material performance improvement.
Experience in selecting, developing, and managing global IFM service providers on Outsource mechanism and be able to manage as per the contract.
To Succeed in this Role Requires:

U.S. Salary Range:
$116,000.00 - $159,500.00
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
